My First Week at University.

My First Week at University.

Head in a bag

During my first week at Solent I began my make-up and hair design course and finished my induction week. During one of our sessions we had to decorate a bag with images we liked/ that would help show our personalities and then take a photo with them over our heads.I made pink roses out of tissue paper to stick onto it which I really enjoyed doing as I'd never done it before and was quite impressed with how they came out. I also really enjoyed working with the group that I'm in as we've all bonded quite quickly and get on really well.

The only thing I wasn't too happy with was the fact that I didn't get to finish it properly and that it got soaked by the rain on the way home. I would've liked to have found some more images to add to it as I thought it looked a little bit unfinished.

I also enjoyed seeing other people's bags and seeing how everyone had decorated theirs differently and seeing people show off the creative side of their personality, which is obviously a very important element of the course.

Illamasqua talk and workshop

I really enjoyed the Illamasqua talk and workshop as I learnt so much about the brand, which is very useful considering part of our make-up kit is the from them. I enjoyed hearing about the evolution of the brand and the ideas behind the different lines that they have released. It also gave a lot of insight to what life is like if you're a make-up artist and it was very interesting to hear from other artists what the industry is like. I was quite relieved when told that there is more work in film and television than in fashion as that's what I am more interested in.

I really enjoyed the workshop as it was really great to see artists working on models in person as this is something I have not experienced before. It was also great to see all the different colours that were used on the models as it was quite unusual.

Hearing about what it's like working in the fashion side of make-up also made me realise how difficult and fast paced the job can be, especially as there is a lot of pressure and not a lot of time.

Kryolan workshop

I massively enjoyed the Kryolan workshop as I really loved the look that was done. I like a lot of dark makeup and the smokey eyes that were done were amazing. I feel like it's incredibly useful for me to watch experienced artists and it was also very useful to have our kits explained to us and be told what each product as and how we could use it on our course.

I also enjoyed hearing about placements that were done with the company, how many different things the company has been doing and different events they are involved in as it shows how many doors can open from a course like this and how many opportunities you can have, especially if you're working with a company like that. It made me very excited to think about what my life could be like in a few years time if I work hard now,
